Overview

Founded in 2002, Turneffe Atoll Trust is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) company, as well as a Belizean Non Governmental Organization. We promote the conservation and sustainability of Turneffe Atoll while furthering scientific understanding of and educating the public about the ecological and economic value of Turneffe’s sensitive and unique habitats.

Turneffe Atoll Trust operates with a small, informal board and minimal staff. Low administrative costs allow nearly all contributed funds to go directly to our programs. Turneffe Atoll Trust has been able to complete a number of essential projects in pursuit of protecting Turneffe Atoll. Although our efforts have created a solid foundation, Turneffe, like most coastal marine areas, faces ongoing challenges including inappropriate development, climate change and a need for sustainable management.
