Turneffe Development Guidelines

The TACAC development guidelines were developed by a group of  Turneffe stakeholders at during a three-year process that concluded in 2003, which was part of a national effort to develop a management plan for Belize’s coastal zone. Formal recognition and implementation of these guidelines, or similar guidelines, by the Government of Belize could significantly address a number of development issues including improper development practices such as dredging, over-the-water development and the clearing of back reef cayes. A reformed
TACAC met for the first time in October 2010 with an initial order of business to review the Development Guideline recommendations from 2003. Turneffe Atoll Trust, through its representation on TACAC, will work to ensure that key measures of the Guidelines are maintained or strengthened.
