On November 22, 2012, legislation establishing the TURNEFFE ATOLL MARINE RESERVE was signed by Belize's distinquished Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and Sustainable Development, Lisel Alamilla.  Turneffe Atoll Trust played a vital role in this effort and was also influencial  in establishing a top-quality, stakeholder-based organization to operate the Reserve.  In October, 2013, the Turneffe Atoll Sustainability Association (TASA) signed an agreement with Belize's  Ministry of Forestry, Fisheries and Sustainable Development to manager the Turneffe Atoll Marine Reserve.

The Turneffe Atoll Marine Reserve encompasses the entire Turneffe Atoll and is now the largest Marine Reserve in Belize.  A detailed Management Plan for the Reserve, funded by Turneffe Atoll Trust through a grant from the Oak Foundation, can be accessed below.
